This holiday season, let’s all remember those in need and try to give just a little bit back to the wonderful community that we call home—Sioux Falls, SD. Here are some ways you can donate, volunteer, and help make life in Sioux Falls just a little bit better for everyone.
Harvest of Hope
The Salvation Army is collecting food boxes for low-income families so that everyone can enjoy a hot Thanksgiving dinner this season. To learn more about how you can donate food, time, or money, please contact the Jen Grossman at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Community Outreach and the Center of Hope work with the support of local community organizations, businesses, and volunteers to provide Christmas gifts to those in need. To sponsor a family, contact the Outreach or the Center of Hope.
Operation Christmas Child
The Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church provides Christmas gifts to children around the world. They are looking for donations of shoeboxes filled with toys, candy, and schools supplies for children. To learn more, contact the Church at 605.371.3800.
Sioux Falls Cares
Every Christmas, Sioux Falls Cares provides food, toys, clothes, and other supplies to needy children and families. They are calling for volunteers on December 10 and 11. Contact Joan at email@example.com.
Adopt a Neighborhood
This Christmas, help the Good Samaritan Society provide gifts to over 400 residents in need. Help out by adopting residents, hosting a Christmas gift collection, or donating gifts or money. Contact Tiffany at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on how you can help.
Give a Wish List Gift
Just about everyone is familiar with the concept of the holiday giving tree—take an ornament off the tree to see a gift from a child’s wish list, buy the gift, return it to the tree and it will go to a child in need. This year, there are several opportunities to participate in a giving tree.
Spirit Tree: Volunteers of America, Dakotas will have wish-list trees up in various locations.
Tree of Love: First National Bank and Active Generations will have trees up in Bank locations at the Western Mall and Downtown. Gifts will go to Prince of Peace and Good Samaritan Luther Manor.
Tree of Hope: The McCrossan Boys Ranch will have trees up at Scheels All Sports, Dakota Sports/Dakota Lettering, and Walmart.
Children’s Connection Christmas Party
This year, work with Family Connection to give Christmas joy to children with incarcerated parents or guardians. Donate tied fleece blankets or board games, or learn other ways to help.
